The Hands-Free Door Opening Experience Starts Here
First, Check The Restroom Environment
The Restroom UP LoK™ is designed to be used in a single-user washroom/restroom setting. The integrated locking mechanism is intended to provide the user with privacy. Do not use this product for any application requiring real security beyond privacy. Building codes worldwide require a privacy lock to be quickly and easily defeated from the ingress side of the door.
The door opens into the restroom.
There is a wall or floor mounted door stop positioned a minimum of 4″ away from the adjacent wall.
A spring-loaded door closer is highly recommended to encourage hands-free operation.
Now Check The Door Preparation
The Restroom UP Lok™ will fit all commercial and residential doors in existence that have the standard 161 type preparation for cylindrical lock/latch requirements. Mortise lock prepared doors will require a wrap or cylindrical lock adapter. Door preparation refers to the drilling out of the bore hole (large thru-hole) and the cross bore hole (where the latch goes) and the mortise work (recessed area on the door edge). Steel doors and some wood doors are sold with perfectly accurate factory made preparations already in place. To complete the Retrofitting Guide, simply verify:
The backset “A” is 2-3/4″ (70mm)
The door thickness “B” is either 1-3/4″ (44.5mm) OR 1-3/8″ (35mm)
The door is prepared for a cylinder latch as shown in the photo.
And that’s it! Now check out the quick and easy installation.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR WOOD DOORS
Unless known to be factory prepared, all wood doors should have their preparation work carefully checked for dimensional accuracy. All measurements must be within +/- 1/16″ (2 mm) of the listed values. If the bore hole or cross-bore hole is drilled out of square the latch may not properly align with the housing. To remedy this, re-drill the problematic hole with the corrected alignment.
Wood doors prepared for drive-in latches will need the cut-out detail as shown in dimension “C”.
Dimension | Required For METAL Doors | Required For WOOD Doors | Notes |
A – Backset | 2-3/4″ (70 mm) | 2-3/4″ (70 mm) | This measurement is nearly universal for commercial doors. |
B – Door Thickness | 1-3/4″ (44.5 mm) OR 1-3/8″ (35 mm) |
1-3/4″ (44.5 mm) OR 1-3/8″ (35 mm) |
These two widths are long-time standards in North America. |
C – Mortise Depth |
Not Applicable – Factory Made Standard | 5/32″ (4 mm) Min – 3/16″ (5 mm) Max | For wood doors, check this depth carefully. |
D – Reinforcement Holes | Not Required | Not Required | These two holes are not needed and will not be visable after installation. |
